SCENIC SUNDAY - BON VOYAGE

The first photo is of Gold Rey Dam on the Rogue River. A controversial dam as people think it should be taken out so the salmon can make it up stream easier to their spawning grounds. It is not being used for anything now and it is old.
The second picture is me getting ready to leave on a trip for 2 weeks. So to any followers, who happen to drop by I will be back on line later. Hope to come back with some great photos. Heading on a ship from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale via the Panama Canal. Bon Voyage!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY #37

NO TELLING WHAT YOU WILL SEE IN THE SKY!!
I must admit since I started doing sky watch, my eyes are always turned to the sky.
My husband thinks I have lost my mind and I have almost had several wrecks in the car while scanning the sky while driving.
I find it increasingly hard to find places to pull over when that perfect sky shot appears.
Hope I am not the only one obsessed with that great blue dome over head!!!
Happy sky watch friday!!

SEPIA SCENES

TIMES GONE BY
Hiking in the country one day,
I happened upon a reminder of the past.
Sitting neglected in the woods,
Once having been a thing of pride.
Once shiny and hard working,
Now shot with holes.
Oh the stories this old truck could tell,
It used to be bright shiny orange but I thought
sepia served it well!

WATERY WEDNESDAY OCEAN

This is the Southern Oregon Coast. It is close enough to Ashland that I can make a day trip out of it. I just love the ruggedness of the Oregon Coast.
Be sure to click on the image to get the full impact.
Happy Watery Wednesday.

SCENIC SUNDAY (My first)

"If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant, if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." ---unknown----

Fridays Ramblings

These are photos taken on my hike near Jacksonville yesterday.
Someone had a sense of humor when they made the trail sign. I haven't been able to find any elephants around here. The wildflowers are beginning to show up everywhere.

Wild flower

This is the first wildflower I have seen this year. It was a wet, cold, rainy day and I almost stepped on it. It was so tiny and loaded down with rain drops but it still was a bright little bit of color on a otherwise bleak day.

Skywatch Friday #35 Solitude

A very stormy evening out in the middle of nowhere. Some where between Idaho border and Burns Oregon. It was getting late and the roads were snow packed. So very peaceful and beautiful, but so lonely and cold. Didn't see another car for hours.
For more great pictures around the world visit Skywatch Fridays.

This photo really reminds me of something. See if it reminds you of the same thing, let me know your answer and I will tell you if we agree in a few days. I have had to look at it several times but last night it just reminded me of something. David said it looked like coiled snakes but that wasn't it. Come up with an original idea.

Great old abandoned truck. No telling what you will find around here. Think Patrick would like this!!!!!!?

Saturday, March 7, 2009

This was taken on one of my ramblings in the hills. Woodpeckers around here have plenty of acorns to store away each year and plenty of old dead trees to hide them in.

This is Ashland. I love this view from the hills up Dead Indian Memorial Road, especially in the winter time.

This is a view of Mt. Ashland in the distance. This was taken from grizzly mountain side of the valley on one of my rambling journeys

Skywatch Fridays #34

These shots were taken early morning last Saturday from my backyard. I was lucky to get them as the colors faded very rapidly. I did nothing to enhance them. This is just how they looked. The whole sky was covered. It truly was an amazing sunrise! Taken in Ashland, Oregon.

Spring is near. One lonely crocus nestled at the base of our large oak tree. Braving the still wintry weather.

A TRUE FRIEND IS SOMEONE WHO THINKS YOU ARE A GOOD EGG EVEN THOUGH HE KNOWS YOU ARE SLIGHTLY CRACKED!

Welcome to my new blog. As you can tell by my content I am only just learning. I love rambling around the hills of Ashland and taking photos. As you will see my favorite models are the wonderful old oak trees around here.

Oak trees: They can live to be over 200 years old and some are known to be 1000 years old.
They usually don't start producing acorns until they are 20 to 50 years old and then their production varies
having a very strong production once every 4 years.
The chances of an acorn becoming a tree are 1 in 10000.
Up to 90% of acorn production can be destroyed by larvae, birds, and squirrels.

Oaks in the winter are amazing to behold. Their shapes are so varied. Just one of earths amazing sights. Get out and enjoy.
