I thought this was a very nice idea. This is before you go onto a dock where lots of people go crabbing. It is located on the pier in old town Bandon, Oregon.

This is a spot a couple of blocks from our house in Bandon, Oregon. I just love going to the beach everyday as everyday it changes. The sky is always so beautiful.

The Coquille River Lighthouse proudly overlooking the Coquille River and Pacific Ocean in Bandon, Oregon. Its new coat of paint gleaming in the sun but its light no longer quiding the ships to port as it is only a tourist attraction now.

This is a neon sign that has been on a Motel that has been in Ashland for many years. It is across from the University and is always full. It is really a cute place with large gardens and remodeled to look the same as when it was first built.

I Watched these surfers when we visited Crescent City, California. This is in northern California not far from the Oregon border. As you can see the waves weren't very big and they are wearing wet suits because the water is oh so very very cold. They were having a lot of fun, however!

Hope this is watery enough for watery wednesday.

Took a train trip to Colorado to visit my grandsons. I must admit that Colorado has the most beautiful skies (I think they might just be better than Oregon), anyway, had a great sky watching time and fun with the little ones. THESE ARE MY SKIES THIS WEEK. WE HAD THUNDERSHOWERS EVERYDAY. QUITE UNUSUAL FOR AROUND HERE. THEY AREN'T BIG THUNDER STORMS BUT THEY CAUSED A LOT OF LIGHTNING FIRES. LUCKILY THERE WAS A LOT OF RAIN ALONG WITH THE LIGHTNING THIS TIME. THE FIRST PICTURE IS TAKEN AT EMIRGRANT LAKE, THE NEXT THREE FROM MY HOUSE AND THE LAST ONE ATOP MOUNT ASHLAND.

WATERY WEDNESDAY - RIVER

We took a hike down the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. This is the stretch of river that has no roads to it and rafters start here for about a 3 day float to a town called Agnes (Just a general store). Which is about 20 miles from where the Rogue River goes into the Pacific Ocean at Gold Beach Oregon. There are only trails along each side of the river. We hike about 4 miles. Each rafting group must get a permit as only a certain number of people are allowed to make this trip each year. The trip is about 50 miles by raft with some very nice rapids to go through.

This is the Sundial Bridge in Redding, CA.
You cross it to get to a wonderful little park.
It actually keeps time also by its shadow on these large time markers. We were there at a little after twelve.
It is a beautiful bridge!!

MELLOW YELLOW - "GORSE'

The Oregon coast is aglow with bright yellow Gorse.
Gorse was introduced as an ornamental to Oregon when seeds were brought from Ireland, prior to 1894.
It looks very pretty this time of year.
It is very detrimental however. Few invasive exotic species dominate a site like gorse.
Gorse is a fire hazard, it outcompetes native and beneficial plants causing considerable loss of grassland habitat and the seeds are viable for 30 years or more. I call it the Monster bush as it has very large thorns and you can't get rid of it once it takes over.

WATERY WEDNESDAY - Day at the Beach

Went to Bandon by the Sea for a couple of days. My favorite beachcombing place. The lighthouse is the Coquille River Lighthouse in Bandon Oregon. I should know the names of the birds on the beach, but I don't because they are birds you don't see all that often. It was a great day on the beach! Glad it is so close to Ashland that you can make a day trip out of it!!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - Sunrise, Sunset

We had rain all day on Tuesday which is unusual for around here. It usually is just a passing shower or two. It was really nice for a change and I actually captured a couple of fairly interesting skies which are also unusual for around here. The first is sunrise and the second is sunset, both on the same day!!!

SEPIA SCENES - A LITTLE HISTORY

The first photo is of a painting on the side of Omars, which is a resturant that has been in Ashland since 1946. This is the same camel painting that is on a pack of Camel Cigs. The second photo is a page out of a 1937 Country Home magazine that stresses the fact that cigarettes are good for your digestion. I thought it was kind of funny the way the cigarette industry tried to get you to smoke!!! Anyway the last picture is of the actual resturant which is entirely smoke free, even the bar!! This is a resturant famous for their steaks. Just a little something for Sepia Scenes!!!

WATERY WEDNESDAY-RATTLESNAKE HIKE!!!

Tuesday I went on a hike up a creek (first photo). I had gone to take some wildflower photos but low and behold I had a surprise. I went up the hill and almost stepped on a rattlesnake. I only was able to recover enough to remember to take a picture but by that time he was more afraid of me and I only was able to get a picture of his tail and rattles. What a surprise!!! I did continue on my wildflower search and got quite a few photos. I have included one. Very interesting hike!!!

MELLOW YELLOW MONDAY #17

Welcome to my Mellow Yellow Monday!! The first photo is of Lower Table Rock. I was out wandering around and just happened to see the bright yellow bridge railing. Table Rock has a great hiking trail to the top and from there you can see the whole valley. It's a great hike and this time of year the top is covered with wild flowers. The second photo is of a tree just beginning to leaf out. I have no idea what it is (not pussy willow) but thought it was very lovely.

These shadows were taken when our ship came along side of a freighter in the Panama Canal locks. The goofy shadow waving is my husband. I thought they were kind of cute when I took them so I guess I will share them with everyone for Shadow Sunday. Have a great day!

Water requires nothiing for itself, it gives of itself freely, never questioning the form into which it must change when needed by a plant, an animal, or by man.

As in its very nature it is itself pure.

Water can purify, refresh, heal, strengthen, revive and clarify all things.

For much of the world even the amount of water held in our toilet tanks is unavailable.

Conserve our water, protect it, clean it up, and mainly be thankful for each drop you use.

Out on one of my nature hikes I spotted this fisherman in the middle of the Rogue River.
The Rogue River is a dangerous river, many people have drowned in it. I was a little curious how he got out there but had to leave before he came ashore. I actually titled the one where he is looking at his hand "No fish today, I guess I should go get a manicure".

RUBY TUESDAY-MY FIRST

This is my first Ruby Tuesday entry. I went out today to find something red to take a picture of and really had a hard time finding something besides floweres to snap. So I resorted to my vacation photos. These were taken in Watuco. I hope there is enough red in them to qualify for ruby tuesday. Next week I hope to find something interesting around here. I was hiking through the woods one day and came upon this old shot up car. Reminded me of the days of Bonnie and Clyde. Hard telling what you will find when you go wandering off the beaten path. Thought it looked like the time period of sepia photos. Just glad there weren't any bandits around!!!!

This is part of my world in Ashland, Oregon. Beautiful Southern Oregon University. The next two pictures are of a mosaic in the rotunda of the beautiful library on Campus. This mosaic was made elsewhere then carefully shipped here and painstakingly put together by the artist. It took him quite a while as this is one large piece of art work. It's hard to walk on it, it is so beautiful. Happy tuesday everyone.

These are some mellow yellow photos taken last week on my vacation. These were taken in Cartagina, Columbia. It was a very colorful place. The shoes were tennis shoes and thongs that they decorated somehow, I thought they were very cute. The woman with the fruit dresses up this way so the tourists will take her picture and give her money. It is how she make her living. Have a happy Monday everyone. This is my favorite spot around Ashland to go exploring. I found this cute little budha sitting under a tree in the old cemetary that sits on a hill over looking the lake. It is such a quiet, peaceful place to go wandering. Happy Sunday!!!!

Well I am back from my vacation and had a great time. These are pictures of the sunset somewhere off the coast of Mexico. I took so many pictures I can't even remember what part of the trip these were taken! We went from San Diego through the Panama Canal and ended up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Quite an adventure but glad to be off the cruise shop after 2 weeks, and back home. There's no place like home!! Happy Skywatch Friday.

The first photo is of Gold Rey Dam on the Rogue River. A controversial dam as people think it should be taken out so the salmon can make it up stream easier to their spawning grounds. It is not being used for anything now and it is old.
The second picture is me getting ready to leave on a trip for 2 weeks. So to any followers, who happen to drop by I will be back on line later. Hope to come back with some great photos. Heading on a ship from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale via the Panama Canal. Bon Voyage!

NO TELLING WHAT YOU WILL SEE IN THE SKY!!
I must admit since I started doing sky watch, my eyes are always turned to the sky.
My husband thinks I have lost my mind and I have almost had several wrecks in the car while scanning the sky while driving.
I find it increasingly hard to find places to pull over when that perfect sky shot appears.
Hope I am not the only one obsessed with that great blue dome over head!!!

This is the first wildflower I have seen this year. It was a wet, cold, rainy day and I almost stepped on it. It was so tiny and loaded down with rain drops but it still was a bright little bit of color on a otherwise bleak day.

A very stormy evening out in the middle of nowhere. Some where between Idaho border and Burns Oregon. It was getting late and the roads were snow packed. So very peaceful and beautiful, but so lonely and cold. Didn't see another car for hours.

These shots were taken early morning last Saturday from my backyard. I was lucky to get them as the colors faded very rapidly. I did nothing to enhance them. This is just how they looked. The whole sky was covered. It truly was an amazing sunrise! Taken in Ashland, Oregon.

Welcome to my new blog. As you can tell by my content I am only just learning. I love rambling around the hills of Ashland and taking photos. As you will see my favorite models are the wonderful old oak trees around here.

Oak trees: They can live to be over 200 years old and some are known to be 1000 years old.
They usually don't start producing acorns until they are 20 to 50 years old and then their production varies
having a very strong production once every 4 years.
The chances of an acorn becoming a tree are 1 in 10000.
Up to 90% of acorn production can be destroyed by larvae, birds, and squirrels.

Oaks in the winter are amazing to behold. Their shapes are so varied. Just one of earths amazing sights. Get out and enjoy.
