SEPIA SCENES - A LITTLE HISTORY
The first photo is of a painting on the side of Omars, which is a resturant that has been in Ashland since 1946. This is the same camel painting that is on a pack of Camel Cigs. The second photo is a page out of a 1937 Country Home magazine that stresses the fact that cigarettes are good for your digestion. I thought it was kind of funny the way the cigarette industry tried to get you to smoke!!! Anyway the last picture is of the actual resturant which is entirely smoke free, even the bar!! This is a resturant famous for their steaks. Just a little something for Sepia Scenes!!!

Those are great shots. Can't get over the magazine ad. Just think if they tried to do that now, all hell would break loose!
ReplyDeleteYea... the world of cigarettes has done a complete about face! (thank God!) But I can remember when everyone in the movies smoked (it was "sexy"!) and all the television commercials - The Marlboro Man! And Lucky Strike! (I'd rather FIGHT than switch!) LOL! I'm quite glad those days are over. This was a great display for Sepia Scenes though -- really!
ReplyDeleteThis is graet, thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking place! When I was little, it was perfectly acceptable to smoke. I don't these days, but cigarettes were a part of the culture then...I thought nicotine was an appetite suppressor. But the view of the past looks great in sepia!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a great story, PA restaurants went all smoke free and I am very glad!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! I remember when I was a kid, my grandparents smoked Camels. Both of them died relatively young too--my grandmother at 51 from a heart attack and my grandfather at 65 from a stroke. Times have sure changed!
